“Stop the cycle of sinus infections.”

If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, you know the routine: the pressure, the fatigue, the antibiotics, the temporary relief, and then the infection returns.

Medications treat the symptoms, but they cannot fix the bony anatomy. When the natural drainage pathways of your sinuses are blocked by bone or swollen tissue, surgery is often the only way to provide a permanent solution.

When is Surgery the Right Choice?

We always take a progressive approach: we start with the least invasive options. However, surgery becomes the best option when:

  • You have had 3 or more sinus infections per year.
  • You have chronic sinusitis lasting longer than 12 weeks despite medical treatment.
  • You have a deviated septum or nasal polyps blocking your airway.
  • You suffer from facial pain, pressure, or headaches related to your sinuses.

Surgery is not a failure of medication; it is a correction of anatomy. It opens the doors that nature closed.

Minimally Invasive Techniques

Gone are the days of painful sinus surgery with packing and external incisions. Dr. Yeung utilizes state-of-the-art, minimally invasive endoscopic techniques. We offer two primary pathways:

1. Balloon Sinuplasty

  • Best for: Mild chronic sinusitis.
  • The Procedure: A small balloon is inserted into the blocked sinus opening and inflated. It gently widens the passage without removing tissue or bone.
  • The Benefit: Less bleeding, faster recovery, often done in-office.
  • The Disadvantage: No permanent bony pathway correction.

2. Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

  • Best for: Severe blockage, polyps, or fungal sinusitis.
  • The Procedure: Using a high-definition endoscope and tiny instruments, Dr. Yeung removes the obstructive tissue and bone to open the sinus pathways.
  • The Benefit: A comprehensive clearing of the infection source. Success rate is exceptionally high.

The Yeung Institute Standard

Why trust your sinus surgery to us?

  • On-Site CT Scanner: You don’t need to drive to a hospital or imaging center. We diagnose you right here in the office using our low-dose scanner w accuracy.
  • A Re-Do Rate of Less Than 1%: Our precision means we get it right the first time. We don’t just treat the infection; we prevent it from coming back.

Septoplasty (Often Combined)

Many patients with sinus issues also have a deviated septum (the wall between the nostrils is crooked). If you have trouble breathing through your nose, Dr. Yeung often performs a Septoplasty at the same time as sinus surgery to ensure your airway is wide open on both sides.

Recovery

Most sinus surgery is performed on an outpatient basis.

  • No Packing: We rarely use traditional nasal packing. You will be able to breathe through your nose immediately after surgery.
  • Pain: minimal.
  • Downtime: Most patients return to work after a weekend.
  • Results: Patients typically report a dramatic improvement in breathing and a significant reduction or total removal of facial pressure within the first week.
