Is it Time for a Rhinoplasty?

The appearance of your nose can add balance to your face if it’s well proportioned. But if you’re like many people, there’s something you’d like to change about your nose. If that’s the case, a rhinoplasty could be right for you.

In this blog, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Cecil Yeung of Houston Sinus Surgery at the Yeung Institute explains what can indicate that it’s time for a rhinoplasty.

What is a rhinoplasty?

It’s often called a nose job, and it’s one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. It can be performed for cosmetic reasons in order to reshape, reduce, or augment your nose. The goal is to enhance facial harmony and to balance your features.

In addition, it can be performed for medical reasons to correct structural defects in the nose that make it difficult for you to breathe.

When is it time for a rhinoplasty?

You may want to consider this procedure if you’d like to achieve one or more of the following goals:

What is involved?

A nose job can be performed in two different ways, depending on your needs. In an open rhinoplasty, your surgeon makes a small incision under the tip of your nose. A closed rhinoplasty is performed without using incisions on the outside of your nose since this type of procedure is performed entirely within your nose.

In both an open and closed procedure, your surgeon will lift the soft tissues that cover your nose and then sculpt the bone and cartilage into the shape you want. Tissue can be added as needed. If a septoplasty is performed at the same time, your septum can be adjusted to improve breathing. The tissues are then re-draped and stitched close.

Who should perform your nose job?

Dr. Yeung has more than 20 years of experience and is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon as well as an ear, nose, and throat physician. He combines skill and artistry with a patient-centered approach that will ensure that you’re comfortable and knowledgeable about your procedure. He’s also experienced in performing rhinoplasties, including revision procedures.
